Friends and loved ones - it saddens me to say that in just over a week I am leaving Perth for Melbourne town. That leaves you little quality time with Matty! so best to cram it all in ASAP - to facilitate this process I offer you a couple of events which I will be undoubtedly present at:
1. MATT AND DAN'S GOING AWAY HOO HAA SPECTACULAR!
Yes, it is impovised, it is spectacular and very very funny. The Big Hoo Haa is the improvised comedy group I have been involved in - where we basically we make up shit on the spot and hope to god its funny (and it often is).
This saturday night - upstairs at the brisbane hotel (highgate) - starting at 8:30pm.
IMPORTANT - last time this sold out by 8:05pm. To ensure this doesn't happen - get all your friends together who know dan or I and buy some tickets online through BOCS - it would be so superb if the venue was PACKED with friends of ours, that no outside punters could even get in - and we can all laugh together. BUY BEFORE SATURDAY (its also very cheap for the amount of entertainment you get)
This will most likely be followed by a party/dance fest at the Tramplifier bar
Hosted By: Dan and Matty When: 11 Feb 2007, 8:00 PM Where: THE BRISBANE HOTEL'S LAZY SUSANS COMEDY LOUNGE CORNER OF BRISBANE AND BEAUFORT STREETS, HIGHGATE PERTH, WA Australia Description: Dan and Matty

2. Valentines Day Cassette
Dust off your electro because this is our last night in Perth! We leave 1:35pm the following day. I'm looking for a valentine date for this evening. I promise flowers and kisses. I have a someone in mind but I'm hoping they'll ask me before I ask them!

1. Got offered a new job as the home game announcer for the Perth Glory This means for all the home games of the season I do pre-game crowd warmup stuff - welcome to the venues, announcements about who scored goals and who is being subsituted etc. and half time games/competitions etc. It is the latest challenge - but for $500 a game, I think I am up for it.
2. Keep next Saturday, 2nd September free My 21st birthday is on the 1st, and I have specially requested to play the Hoo Ha show on the 2nd. So this means your presence is presents enough. Be at Lazy Susan's comedy den, upstairs at the Brisbane hotel, from 8pm with a bunch of friends. This WILL SELL OUT - so get your tickets through BOCS.
I will be playing - so will Dan. Its going to be a massive show and everyone can cheer loudly at any bad joke I make as a birthday present. Afterwards there will probably be partying onwards ever upwards, so be sure to message me if you want some late night shenanigans - I'm going to be up for pretty much anything.... anything.
3. Melbourne and Brisbane Oh so soon... I am so excited I could (and do) touch myself. September 6-14
4. Happy Me Everything is going well - this year has been really the self-determined go-getter in me thriving out of necessity. Its about looking any task in the eye and saying give me one reason why I am not the best person to get what I want. Enjoy the stuff everybody hates doing - and then the highs will be even higher. Fuck things you aren't passionate about. Don't ever doubt the power of charm and wit to see you through any situation. Any....
5. Evidence Boo hiss. Speak to me after Friday and you'll see a changed man.
Come on charm and wit................ |

The other day Nova ran an internal competition, whereas you took the template of an ad, which had a plane flying through the air, a captains announcement and then a bunch of screams and banging etc. Some examples are: This one and This one
Now the idea behind the comp was to devise the captain announcement (as riske and rude and you want) and send it in, for a chance at $500!
Well Dan and I thought we were funnier than anyone else in Nova, so we brainstormed after midnite on MSN, came up with a few corkers and we won!! . To give you an insight into the creative process of the winnning entry here's an extract of our msn conversation!!
=== ....... nap ........... says:(12:32:59 AM) 'you know wat they say about landing folks....Third time lucky!' dan says: (12:33:23 AM) you could do the party popper bit when the nova logo comes up. itd look really slick ....... nap ........... says: (12:33:41 AM) no i dont like the above one ....... nap ........... says: (12:33:46 AM) because they dont say that about the landings ....... nap ........... says: (12:33:51 AM) but the punchline could work ....... nap ........... says:(12:33:52 AM) i.e. ....... nap ........... says (12:34:06 AM) "we're now coming into land... i always fuck this up.... oh well third time lucky" dan says: (12:35:14 AM) "ladies and gentlemen, we're now coming in to land... and ive got a damn good feeling i'll get it right this time" ....... nap ........... says: (12:36:16 AM) love it!

As I just said to my newest LJ pal tashy (who I met over Myspace... which evidently I am addicted to) that Sony BMG just finished a big presentation in our boardroom. This means that working at night I scored
-- salted peanuts -- potato chips -- cool mints
and the water is always free. I love this job (only for the free food), so much so that today I resigned from cotton on *relieved sigh*
Here is a pic of me and danielle from BB!

PS I don't watch the show and I look munted in the photo.... In retrospect... bad decision choosing this one! |

*Drum Roll* My first on air cross!.... Like a Pro... Like a Pro
Friday Night Was the last NOVA nights for a while. We went out on the streets and headed to Harbour Town. As we were parked somewhere in the centre of the late-night shopping district we got a little swamped, and were fending off a lot of shoppers and employees chasing free stuff. After we headed to the next cross, I heard in Mt Lawley
DJ: So Steph you work at Harbour Town, and you're chasing Casanova Tim's number. Steph: Yeah he was really hot...
etc. etc. Anyway, I was convinced it was me (being so hot and all, and Tim so not), so we decided to have some fun and call Steph back, and play it up, and get the confession out of her, see which one of us it was... And for reasons which will become obvious... could not put it to air.

This has to be one of the funniest things I have seen in ages:

A gentlemen by the name of Guy Goma walked into the BBC applying for a high level IT job. Meanwhile a flurried producer is looking for an expert on the Apple v Apple decision, namely Guy Kewney, due to be on air any moment.
So this producer walks into the lobby asking "are you Guy?" to which the gentlemen, whose native language is French, of course answers yes. The resut, is the funniest reaction on live TV ever. The cool, calm, collected performance (so as to avoid any on air embarrassment to the station) hopefully earnt this guy a job.
Oh man that face cracks me up.... Find the videos below!

Improv Everywhere are a group based in NY who have taken improvisation to the streets- performing a wacky variety of improvised scenes designed to get a laugh - but most often creating panic amongst law enforcement officials.
Its a great way to waste time and read about their stunts, which are often hilarious - they play them out to full drama and even suck in a few "audience members".
I really want to try this one day:
 The Suicide Jumper
Also fun is this one:
 The Moebius
Anyone up for some crazy times of this magnitude in the holidays? Robert would you possibly film? |

Tertles Ninja tertles was an amazing experience. It was a case of great publicity too late - with spots appearing both on NOVA and 92.9 (care of Ollie - dedicating an entire talk break to the happenings of the play). It all ended spiralling somewhat out of control - in the end it had taken a life of its own (we turned away people both on the Friday and Saturday nights simply as there were no room).
Why the play was amazing is trickier to know - I think, to sum it up, Smerfs was lifechanging, Captin Planet was a delight onstage - but its own breed of offstage hell. Tertles came at a time I needed it most - the greatest cast I have ever worked with, and forming amazing friendships once again. I felt this script was the best work Dan, Luke and I had done - and probably the most fun I've had playing a role onstage - but mainly due to the interactions onstage I got to have with my best friends Dan and Luke.
I love you guys. Its weird these post play blues - getting to 5:30pm and realise your night is just beginning. I'm used to thinking that if you haven't done something by this time, you might as well write it off. Crazy times
Panto I really want to see this piece of shit. But I am working all 3 days its on. Saturday I am hoo-haaing (though I am of course coming to Dan's... though slightly late). 3 days? How do they make ANY money?
Heckle just that little bit louder for me guys.
Cotton on My manager is my age... and getting married in 3 months. Weird. I think I want to quit this job (with the exception of maybe working the city megastore on a Sunday ($25 an hour!)) - and pick up more NOVA instead. On that note...
Nova Tonight I got decked out in new uniform including: 1. New Sketcher Shoes 2. Material Boy Jeans 3. Silver/Red Trucker T-shirts 4. Grey NOVA hoodies
All for free! I am training up to do voice work as a Casanova - i really want to take over nights when the current wave of people leave. There's a lot of creative freedom at nights as its more about the recorded content than the promotions. That means I'll probably be asking you guys (my creative pals) about weird shit I can do to keep it fresh, young, funny and interesting. Like the work Jimmy used to do.
Read this if nothing else Tonight I made a delicious pun about the Beaconsfield miners: "Well unless you've been living under a rock for the past two weeks...."
and finally Nay and I have decided to be friends again. This makes me very, very happy. And kind of makes me feel grown up and mature, for a change.
Love out |

For those who want to see photos of my itrepid adventure you're eyeballing the right journal!
Overall the trip was amazingly relaxing - wonderful to get away from Perth, hang out and just exist in the best city in Australia. The comedians all had amazing shows - and I got to sample a veritable array of comedy including - The Glasshouse, Claire Hooper, The Dead Set, Daniel Kitson and more!
Well they say a picture says 1000 words.... but what if its a really small picture? It must be hard not to repeat yourself.

Tonight I saw a story that was inspiring in a kooky/cool kind of way.
This is the tale of Kyle MacDonald and how he is planning to swap: a red paperclip
 for a house.
Basically one day he decided to post a picture of a red paperclip on the internet for trade. The chain so far reads a red paperclip-->a fish-pen-->a door-knob-->a camping stove-->a power generator-->a keg of beer and a neon sign-->a snowmobile-->a holiday-->a moving truck-->a recording contract-->one months free rent in a house.
Outstanding offers include: - a fully expenses paid 30 second tv commercial - one year in hollywood (with use of a porsche convertible car) - 24 hours with a japanese stripper
See more of this story: http://oneredpaperclip.blogspot.com/
Meanwhile - good on him.
PS Melbourne photos soon! Having a ball! |

Last night I got paid for 4.5 hours to do the following:
1. Sit at the station for half an hour and eat chocolate 2. Sit in a paid taxi to Fremantle 3. Meet Nova listeners and collect invitations 4. Play Timezone games for 2 hours, with a collection of randoms and workmates 4a. I rock at that dancey game, the jurrasic park ride and Daytona USA 4b. Sometime I would just laugh about how good this job is 5. Sit in a paid taxi back to the station 6. Drink a beer at the station with workmates
Somebody tell me why this is not the best job in the world. |
